Plan For Grandpa’s Birthday Party

As I write about birthday invitations, I get many emails asking how to plan for grandpa’s birthday party. Grandpa is ninety-three years old and he will celebrate his next birthday in the same home that his parents have enjoyed for the last sixty-five years.

My answer is that he will most likely have to do it on someone else’s birthday. His parents are always very understanding about this.

The first thing you need to plan is where to hold the party. Many of us conduct parties at our house, but we’ll often plan better when the weather is nicer.

If it is a hot summer day, maybe we can have the party at one of our houses, such as my own or Donny. If it’s fall, maybe we can use a park, the beach, or a hotel parking lot. It all depends on the space you have available.

If you are throwing a big birthday party, you’ll want to send out a birth announcement two weeks in advance. This will let everyone know who will be attending.

You’ll also need to make a list of all the food you’ll be serving, the type of drinks you’ll be serving, the theme, decorations, gifts for attendants, etc. Your party package should include the details of what you’ll be doing for the birthday child and of course, your address and phone number.

Next, you’ll need to get all the equipment for the birthday. It might be a good idea to bring some old photos from Grandpa’s past to throw around at the party. Remember to bring along some old birthday cards from the past too.

Grandpa might be more inclined to enjoy his birthday party if people remember him by his real name, not by his middle name or pet names.

Most kids are interested in rides and games, so figure out what games and rides you’ll be offering before you send out your invitations. You can also send out party invitations with a picture of the birthday guest as well.

If you are going to have the party outside, you’ll need some sort of container to protect the food and drink from rain or any other weather related issues.

You can save money by bringing some containers to keep them in, or you can rent a bucket and use it for each guest to carry their own bucket of refreshments. Renting a picnic table is also a good idea.
One thing you’ll need to plan for is the entertainment for your guests. Since this is a party for an elderly person, there is a good chance that there won’t be a lot of older children at the party.

That’s why you’ll probably need to look into a kid’s birthday party company for the children. The kids can bring their friends and you can send out invites at an appropriate time.
You will need to plan for Grandpa’s birthday party theme.

There are many theme packages offered by birthday party companies. You can get one that matches his interests, his lifestyle, movies and television shows he likes, or types of foods he likes. Try to find one that will allow him to host the party at his house as well. He’ll love his freedom and it will make it easier for you to plan activities around him.

In order to really plan for Grandpa’s birthday party, you’ll need to have everything in place way in advance. You should plan about the food, games, entertainment and invitations well in advance.

The closer you are to the big day, the better you will be able to plan for it. Remember to take into account how long you will have to attend the party and the weather conditions – it will make things go much smoother if you can limit your guest list.
